Shaker Place Celebrates Their Grand Opening

shaker place grand opening in Albany NY

We’re proud to announce that the first three of six new wings at Shaker Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center are open and are already being enjoyed by our residents. The opening was celebrated on January 12, 2020, with a ribbon-cutting inside the nursing home. The ceremony was hosted by Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy, with many members of the Albany County Legislature, the staff and residents at Shaker Place attending.

The new wings are part of an $80 million renovation project that will be completed by the end of 2020. The wings include private and semi-private rooms, new country kitchens, spacious dining rooms, sitting areas with fireplaces, and more. The amenities and new comforts are already receiving rave reviews from residents.

“The new country kitchens are very nice! I like having meals with some of my friends here. It’s just right down the hall from my room,” says Marilyn Wendt. Wendt was the first resident to move into a room in the new Ann Lee Wing after the ribbon cutting.

In addition to the country kitchens, the airy and light-filled atriums provide a comfortable spot for residents to visit with friends and family or relax and read a book. The fireplaces create a welcoming atmosphere, as does the aquarium in one of our main sitting areas.

The new atriums are also the perfect spots for group activities. Our residents have been enjoying visits from local Girl Scouts troops, musical guests, trivia, pet visits, and so much more. With a full event calendar, our residents always have something exciting to look forward to!

Once the weather warms up, we’re excited for our residents to be able to relax in the outdoor courtyards. The courtyards and gardens include walking paths so residents can get some exercise outdoors. We’ve even included a sound system so they can enjoy music along with the fresh air.

A big focus of the renovation was providing privacy and the comforts of home for our residents. Each room layout has been carefully designed for maximum comfort and privacy and our residents have been truly enjoying the updates. “The renovations are wonderful! Everything is brand new and my new room gives me so much privacy, even with a roommate”, says Donna Marie Gross.

Each room is modern and spacious and offers the latest safety features. They also come complete with a flat screen television, closet, chair, and nightstand. All of the bathrooms, whether shared or private, are handicap accessible.

The last three wings of the renovation are expected to be finished at the end of 2020. We’re thrilled to be able to offer residents of Albany County a safe, comfortable, and stimulating nursing center. We’re also proud to be operating a facility in which families know their loved ones are happy and being well cared for.
