What are your visiting hours?
Visiting Hours are 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM daily. However, if families and guests need other accommodations to visit they are to contact the Social Work Department, and alternate times of visitation will be arranged.

How often is a doctor available?
We have a full-time Medical Director and our physicians are fee for service. They are required to see their residents every 30 days and are available for any additional visits, depending on the resident’s condition/care needs.
Can family take a resident out?
Yes! Residents leaving the nursing home will require a physician’s order and should arrange their outing through our Social Services Department.

What should I bring?
When visiting you are welcome to bring items from home to furnish or decorate the room, however, space is limited, and personal items cannot infringe upon the rights of roommates, others, or impede the ability to provide care and treatment. For more information please refer to the “What Should I Bring?”
Am I allowed to bring my favorite recliner?
Yes, providing it meets the regulations for fire safety and must be approved by the administration.
How do you handle laundry?
Laundry is cleaned offsite through a contracted laundry service. Residents and families may request to clean their own clothing and this will be arranged by our Social Services Department.
What does the activities schedule look like?

Do you offer transportation to medical appointments?
Yes. We help arrange transportation through our medical transportation department, using an outside company. Payment of this transportation is the responsibility of the resident, depending on their coverage.
Do you provide end of life care?
We have a program called Palliative Care that allows a resident at the end of their life to remain at the nursing home and receive care as ordered by their attending physician, taking into consideration the personal wishes. We also have Hospice services that can be arranged through the Nursing and Social Services Department.
What is your pet policy?
Residents’ pets are not allowed to reside at the community, however, pet visitation can be arranged. Please refer to our Pet Visitation Procedures document in the new resident packet.
Are snacks provided throughout the day?
Yes. There are always crackers, cookies, and other items on the resident wings.
Can meals be tailored to dietary needs and likes/dislikes?
Yes. We utilize a meal ticket system to track individual food preferences, restrictions, and allergies. Our registered dietitian and dietary technicians collaborate with your physician and our nursing staff regularly to evaluate your nutritional status and to be certain your requirements are met. What is your smoking policy?
We are a non-smoking facility and that includes the grounds and common outdoor areas.
Do you have a minimum age for long-term care residents?
No, however, there is a minimum age set by regulation of 18 years old. Shaker Place can admit a younger resident with the approval of the NYSDOH.
Who pays for my stay here? How much am I going to have to contribute?
We accept Medicaid, Medicare, other insurance plans, and private pay. Staff will work with residents and families to assist them through the Medicaid process.
Do you accept Medicaid?
Yes, we accept Medicaid, Medicare, and a variety of other managed care and HMO plans.
Can you help with insurance paperwork?
Our knowledgeable staff can assist with all paperwork including Medicaid applications, Medicare assistance, and managed care. Everything can be completed right from your home.
Do you offer respite care?
Yes, respite stays are available to give at-home caregivers a well-deserved break. A minimum of five nights is preferred. Please reach out to an admission specialist at 518-869-2231 to discuss your specific needs.
What precautions are you taking due to COVID-19?
At Shaker Place, we want you to be assured we remain committed to your loved one’s health and safety while remaining as transparent as possible.
