Certified nursing assistants (CNA) perform routine non-professional tasks in support of nursing services for residents of Shaker Place. This work involves the routine care of residents and the performance of such indirect, non-nursing or non-technical services for residents as are not required to be performed by a licensed practical nurse or registered professional nurse.
Responsibilities/Typical Work Activities:
- Assists in walking, feeding and bathing residents and caring for their personal needs;
- Assists nurses in lifting and turning heavy or helpless residents, in restraining irrational residents, in holding residents for treatment and in care disturbed residents;
- Assists residents in the use of walkers, crutches and similar equipment in a prescribed physical therapy program;
- Helps regulate number of visitors and gives information to visitors in accordance with instructions from the nurse in charge;
- Assembles information concerning the residents’ condition and enters reports on the residents’ record;
- Cleans and sterilizes hospital equipment;
- Labels and stores residents clothing and turns over valuables to person designed by hospital;
- May assist with care and moving of room furniture, fixtures and supplies to help keep residents safe and comfortable;
- On occasion may be assigned clerical tasks;
- May accompany or assist patient/residents in supportive nursing services and transporting of patient/residents in ambulance or clinic car.

- Physical strength and mental alertness;
- Willingness to cooperate and carefully follow a prescribed routine;
- Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
At time of appointment, possession of a certification as a Nursing Assistant issued by the New York State Department of Health.
