This is skilled work, at the journey level, in the painting of buildings, fixtures, and equipment. Work involves the preparation of surfaces and materials, and requires individual skilled performance in accordance with standard trade practices. Employees receive assignments orally or through written job orders, and work is inspected by a supervisor while in process or upon completion. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Responsibilities/Typical Work Activities:
- Paints residents’ rooms, corridors, lounges;
- Prepares surfaces to be painted; removes old paint by use of burners, sand paper, and scrapers; applies sizing;
- Mixes and matches paints and stains using the proper proportions of pigment, base, and thinner;
- Makes minor repairs to wood surfaces prior to painting;
- Cleans brushes and spray guns and makes minor repairs to equipment.
Full Performance, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:
- Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools and practices of the painting trade;
- Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade;
- Skill in the care and use of paint brushes, spray guns, and other tools of the painting trade;
- Skill in mixing paints and matching and blending of colors;
- Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- One (1) year of experience in the painter’s trade.
